The company founder Ludwig Bähr first appears as a "Negociant" (wholesaler) for haberdashery and woollen articles in the directory for the State of Hessen "Kurhessischen Staats- und Handadressbuch". The company address is in Kassel, Marktgasse No. 17, a neighbouring house to the famous "Gebrüder Grimm" (The Grimm Brothers).

The company is taken over by his son Carl Bähr.


1872
Neubau und Inbetriebnahme der Buntpapierfabrik in der Sandershäuser Straße. Carl Bähr übergibt die Firma an seinen Sohn Wilhelm. Ein für die damalige Zeit hochmoderner Maschinenpark mit mehreren Färbe- und Verarbeitungs-maschinen wird installiert. Die hergestellten Papiere werden hauptsächlich nach Frankreich und England exportiert. Die Kurzwarenhandlung in der Marktgasse wird verkauft.
